Understanding Arrhythmias

When you keep your hand on your chest, you can feel your heartbeat. These heartbeats are generated through electrical impulses in the heart. The electrical impulse starts in specialized cells in the SA node and travels through your heart. Further, these impulses control the timing of heartbeat and heart rhythm and keep the heart pumping blood.

When the electrical impulses are not generated properly or stop working, heart problems such as arrhythmia occurs. Arrhythmias mean irregular heartbeat, which means that the heart is out of its rhythm. It may feel like your heart has skipped a beat or fluttering or pacing.
